Stanford Values and Commitment to Compliance

Stanford University is committed to maintaining an environment free of prohibited discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.

Consistent with its institutional values, Stanford has policies and practices to ensure freedom from discrimination and harassment.  These policies and practices comply with both federal civil rights laws and state laws. These laws include, but are not limited to, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

We uphold and advance Stanford’s values by maintaining programs and activities that are accessible and comply with our anti-discrimination policies as well as all applicable civil rights laws. Consistent with these obligations and the principles set forth in the Supreme Court’s June 2023 decision, Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard and UNC, Stanford does not engage in illegal preferences or discrimination. In the administration of the University's programs and activities, Stanford prohibits unlawful discrimination on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin (including shared ancestry or ethnic characteristics), sex, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status, marital status or any other characteristic protected by applicable law. Stanford also prohibits unlawful harassment including sexual harassment and sexual violence.

The policies linked below detail Stanford's commitment to compliance and fostering an inclusive community that respects and values all its members.

In support of diligent compliance with our anti-discrimination policies, members of the community have an obligation to report any suspected noncompliance with Stanford’s anti-discrimination policies with the points of contact detailed in the relevant policies above.
