Help my Student

The first 50 words to say are...

"I am glad you reached out for support, I just wanted to remind you that any knowledge I receive about sexual or relationship violence, stalking, or sexual harassment I will have to share with the Title IX Office. There are options on-campus for you to confidentially share this information with people who do not have reporting requirements.  The Confidential Support Team (CST) counselors have specialized knowledge about your options and resources, and can support you.  If you are interested I can assist you with scheduling to meet with them.”

I am here to help

Listen, Refer & Connect, Take Care of Yourself.  Of these actions, the most important is to recognize your own limitations and get your student connected to help.  If your student wants to confidentially find out about their options, contact the Confidential Support Team.

The Confidential Support Team (CST) offers confidential support to Stanford students impacted by sexual assault and relationship violence, including domestic abuse, intimate partner abuse, stalking and sexual or gender-based harassment. CST services include information and help accessing resources, short-term emotional support and ongoing individual counseling. There is no charge for Stanford students. For more information about CST’s 24/7 hotline, hours and support services, please visit the CST web page.

If you are a faculty or a staff member who works regularly with students, you are a “responsible employee” under Title IX who must share what you know with Stephen Chen, Title IX Coordinator, Kingscote Gardens, 419 Lagunita Drive, Suite 240, Stanford, (650) 497-4955, titleix@stanford.edu. (Knowing that you must share can be nerve-wracking.  We suggest that you are direct with the student and let them know that you must act under a legal obligation.  Let the student know that the SHARE Title IX Office will work with the student to try and meet their needs, including trying to give them agency about whether to proceed to an investigation.)
